Brenda Benner Wins World Champion Trainers Equitation Class!

by Katie Keltner Bowen
As printed in Saddle & Bridle magazine, July 2013

Brenda BennerBrenda Benner showed the grandstand just how to thrillingly present an equitation horse when she fired down the straightaways with the gorgeous entry of Sue Courtney, Callaway’s Worth Fighting For, all the while looking equitation perfect – determined, elegant, and heels down every step of the way!  In executing a perfect pattern – one of Zeus’ first patterns in the show arena – Brenda could have put to shame the best dressage riders, as she presented her animal with perfect pivots, step for step pattern work, and transitions that flowed with ease.  And, all the while, her horse was brilliantly animated: bright in the bridle, yet responsive and agreeable.  Of course, nothing less could be expected from a world caliber equitation mount and his rider, and when Zeus and Ms. Benner were pinned with just that title, the crowd erupted with cheers of approval.  Now, the reserve World’s Champion of Trainer Equitation was the great riding Kate Coup with her National Champion Three-Gaited Pony, Fitz, while former USEF National Adult Equitation Champion, Jean Mutrux, placed third and World Caliber trainer Carol Jones of Little Rock, Arkansas accepted the fourth place ribbon; proving, certainly, that this was a class stacked with talent, indeed!
